In this, the first instalment we open our archives wide to take you back to yesteryear. This compilation from rare archival railway film collections shows the weird and wonderful, the gone but not forgotten, and the development of railway infrastructure that remains today.

This instalment contains the following scenes:

Dutton Park & Park Road
Street Trams
STEAM Suburban passenger, live stock, light engine, & standard gauge.
DIESEL Overhead wiring mast train, SX passenger cars
ELECTRIC Passenger trains, electrification specials.

The Barakula Tramway
We travel the closed line from Chinchilla, on the western line to
Barakula aboard open wagons hauled by PB15 locomotive no. 551.

Brisbane Central Station
We start this sequence in the 1940s. There are various scenes at Central including steam,
diesel, railmotor & electric trains. We then witness the demolition of the old awning above
the platforms & complete reconstruction of the station. We transition from steam, to diesel
and onto electrification. In the end, a hotel is built above & office towers
surround. A great demonstration of the many changes that occurred here.

Brisbane Suburban Workings
Various scenes of steam hauled passenger trains at Gailes, Goodna, Redbank and Ipswich. Sunlander
service at Wooloowin, Electric Locomotive test at Banoon, 102hp Streamline Railmotor & RM1901 at
Corinda, 2000 and 1800 class RM at Cannon Hill, bridge damage & wrong road running at Buranda.

Standard Gauge Workings
The final Brisbane Limited departs Roma Street hauled by 80 class
diesels. The first XPT arrives at Brisbane, seen at Gloucester Street.

Gladstone Area
Numerous scenes of diesel hauled Sunlanders. Special electric locomotive commissioning trains, rare
EMU services, diesel hauled EMU movements & regular diesel hauled coal workings and stock trains.

Various Freight Movements
Various diesel classes move tanks at Fisherman Islands. Regular goods trains on the closed Brisbane
Valley Branch, at Bundaberg and also Cooroy. Steam hauled goods and diesel hauled cattle trains at
Cannon Hill, Morningside, Norman Park, Corinda, re-sleepering train on the Lota Line, coal trains at Swanbank.

RM 1901 on closed Kilcoy Branch
We ride a regular railmotor service along the length of the Caboolture to Kilcoy line in the early
1960s. Filmed using multiple cameras and featuring cab views and exterior views of the Rail Motor.

Bowen Locomotive Depot (1957)
Various scenes at Bowen featuring the coal stage and other infrastructure.

The demolition and reconstruction of the Bowen Hills Tunnel
Amazing scenes as diesel hauled passenger trains and railmotors navigate through tricky construction
work as the old tunnel is removed, a wide cutting is created, and a new tunnel is constructed.

Steam on the Kingaroy Branch
C17 class locomotives haul goods trains on the Branch to Kingaroy and Proston, at various locations along the branch.
