Historic Queensland Cab Rides - Volume 2 (DVD)
Step back in time as you sit with the driver and experience travelling on Queensland’s remarkable railway network of yesteryear. This series explores the Queensland Railways from the drivers’ perspective as you travel with them on suburban and long distance passenger, freight and mineral trains.
This installment contains the following cab rides:
Mount Morgan to Kabra
Take a ride down Central Queensland’s Razorback Range aboard 15B, the regular goods train from Theodore hauled by 1652 from Mt Morgan to Kabra. Several compulsory stops are made along the way to test the brakes as we travel alongside the former ABT Rack Railway. This line was closed in 1987 and this footage was filmed in 1984.
Caboolture to Petrie
Extension of electrification is underway as we travel along the North Coast line from Caboolture to Petrie aboard a regular 2000 class railmotor service. Construction of new alignments and stations can be seen during our journey in 1983, allowing viewers to see where the then current alignment intersects with the corridor that is in use today. This railmotor operated as a co-ordinated shuttle service that ran throughout the day between the electric terminus at Petrie and Caboolture.
Eagle Junction to Pinkenba
Travel aboard a regular 2000 class Railmotor as it makes it way from Eagle Junction to Pinkenba in 1983. This line was electrified five years later in 1988 with passenger services ceasing beyond Doomben in 1993.
