Tall Timber and Tramlines Queensland (by John Kerr) (BOOK)

Tall Timber and Tramlines Queensland (by John Kerr) (BOOK)

Written by John Kerr, This book describes all the Queensland timber tramways known to the author when the manuscript was released for publication in 2005. For climatic and other reasons Queensland had fewer timber tramways than most other Australian states. As a result it is possible in this book of 100 pages to mention all of those known to exist when the manuscript was prepared. All were closed by the end of the 1930s.
They ranged from the engagingly primitive to the well engineered Laheys' Canungra Tramway.

Tracks To Some Place - Volume 1 (BOOK)

Tracks To Some Place - Volume 1 (BOOK)

Tracks to Some Place’ was born out of several different facets that merged to create the book as it is now. My family has a working involvement with the railway network in Queensland stretching back to the 1970’s, and as such we have accumulated a reasonable assortment of photographs (mostly older print type images) of various aspects of railway operations and equipment. In the last few years these have come into my possession and rather than let them gather dust in a forgotten album, I toyed with the idea of getting them out there somehow.

The 2 ft gauge Innisfail Tramway played a major role in the colourful history of the town.  Built one hundred years ago by the Geraldton Shire Council, it was subsequently taken over and operated by the Queensland Railways until they sold it to local sugar mills in 1977.

Beaudesert Shire Tramway (BOOK)

Beaudesert Shire Tramway (BOOK)

The 3ft 6in gauge Beaudesert Shire Tramway was one of fifteen light railways built in Queensland by various Divisional Boards or their successors, the Shire Councils, and embraced three gauges: 3ft 6in, 2ft 6in and 2ft. These light railways were originally built to develop areas not served by rail, the finance for their construction being loan by the Government. All have now ceased to be owned by Shire Councils - some were closed, others were taken over by the Government and became part of the Queensland Railways system...

Bell Line (the) (BOOK)

Bell Line (the) (BOOK)

The railway from Dalby to Bell was the first branch line in the district and it was part of a plan to extend rail transport and to open up Crown lands. Rail transport had come to Queensland in 1865 with the completion of the line from Ipswich to Biggs Camp, and on April 20, 1868 the line had reached Dalby. Joshua Thomas Bell, of Jimbour, MLA for Dalby and Minister of Lands from 1903, had a well-defined plan for the settlement of the unoccupied land in the Dalby district

One For The Road (BOOK)

One For The Road (BOOK)

This book is a follow-up to Andy’s previous book “Wheels in Motion”, and like it is not a book designed purely for the railway enthusiast. It is predominantly a book for cane railwaymen by a cane railwayman. However, it will appeal to many enthusiasts because of its excellent full-page colour photographs, the generally clear system maps, the useful information especially for photographic locations), and the sense it provides of the special culture of the cane railwayman.
